Preziosi frammenti di terracotta dipinta svelano i loro straordinari colori e una complessità di scene figurate mai prima d’ora note. Uno dei recuperi di opere d’arte più significativi degli ultimi anni da parte del Comando Carabinieri per la Tutela del Patrimonio Culturale ha riportato in Italia un cospicuo nucleo di reperti appartenenti a lastre dipinte, quelle stesse che un tempo decoravano le pareti degli edifici dell’antica Caere, secondo l’uso dei greci leukomata, tavole di legno dipinte e affiancate in fregi continui. Arricchita dal confronto iconografico con altre opere bronzee e ceramiche coeve, si offre finalmente alla comunità scientifica e al grande pubblico una eccezionale testimonianza della vivacità della grande pittura etrusca, che ha avuto proprio nell’antica Caere uno sviluppo del tutto particolare a partire dalle fasi iniziali del VI secolo a.C., grazie alla maestria di artigiani formatisi nel contesto dalla Grecia orientale.

Valuable fragments of painted terracottas reveal their outstanding colors and a complex variety of figural scenes never seen before. One of the most relevant recoveries of works of art in the last years by the Command of the Carabinieri for the Protection of Cultural Heritage brought back to Italy a large number of finds including painted terracotta plaques, the very same that once decorated the walls of buindings in ancient Caere, following the Greek tradition of the leukomata, painted wooden tablets hanging close to one another in continuous friezes. A collection of contemporary bronzes and pottery as comparanda enriches the exhibition offered to the scholarly community and the general public, as an extraordinary testimony of the great Etruscan painting, which had in ancient Caere a peculiar development, starting from the beginning of the sixth century by virtue of the mastership of craftsmen trained in the context of East Greece.

Il mondo ideale dell’aristocrazia etrusca di Caere del VI secolo a.C. è racchiuso, tutto, nei preziosi frammenti di terracotta riportati in Italia dal Comando Carabinieri per la Tutela del Patrimonio Culturale, nell’ambito di complesse indagini. È uno dei recuperi di opere d’arte più significativi degli ultimi decenni per la quantità e soprattutto per la rarità dei reperti, oltre che per la complessità delle scene figurate. Si tratta di una straordinaria serie di lastre dipinte policrome, consistenti in più di mille frammenti, versione etrusca dei greci leukomata, tavole di legno imbiancate e poi dipinte, applicate alle pareti degli edifici e affiancate in fregi continui. L’uso di dipingere su lastre di terracotta è proprio dell’antica Caere, la più filo-ellenica delle città etrusche, collegato all’arrivo di artigiani greci a partire dalle fasi iniziali del VI secolo a.C.

La mostra Egizi Etruschi nasce dall’opportunità di accostare produzioni e ideologie che hanno accompagnato la nascita e lo sviluppo di due tra le più grandi civiltà del Mediterraneo, un mare che nell’antichità ha sempre favorito gli scambi e l’incontro di culture. In un periodo, come quello attuale, in cui il Mediterraneo è lo scenario di guerre, di tragedie, di “rifiuto del diverso”, la cultura può forse riaprire un dialogo importante, purtroppo interrotto tra coloro che sulle rive del Mediterraneo vivono, seguendo il filo rosso della memoria: dialogo che è stato fonte di progresso, di solidarietà e di pace. La mostra Egizi Etruschi è anche un’importante occasione per presentare al pubblico, per la prima volta, e mettere a confronto con i reperti egizi trovati a Vulci, in un “dialogo mediterraneo”, alcuni preziosi oggetti egizi provenienti dalla collezione di Eugene Berman e dalla Sezione Egizia del Museo Archeologico di Firenze.
