Take the space

La questione dello spazio – e il suo conseguente rapporto con il tempo -, anche come infinitamente dilatabile fino ad essere attratto dalle vertigini del vuoto, sposta sempre più la percezione dell’opera verso un concetto di partecipazione e di relazione con lo spazio fisico dell’architettura: la costituzione di un luogo estetico e la propensione a misurarsi con le caratteristiche di esso anche in termini strutturali, sono aspetti di una questione centrale della cultura moderna e contemporanea, che pone il problema della permeabilità del confine tra arte dello spazio e spazio dell’arte. Questa mostra è praticamente un invito rivolto agli artisti e dagli artisti al pubblico ad appropriarsi dello spazio in e con tutti i sensi, attraverso la sua occupazione, misurazione, amplificazione, violazione, trasfigurazione e rappresentazione come processi e modalità di relazione che lo sottopongono alla trasformazione irreversibile da spazio neutro a spazio deputato, come nel caso del luogo che ospita per la prima volta un’esposizione della storica “Salerniana”, una rassegna a tema articolata su artisti rappresentativi delle ultime generazioni, in gran parte affermati più qualcuno inedito, con opere indicative delle loro ricerche, che declinano altrettante modalità di relazione spaziale.

Space – its relationship with time – and the fact that it expands ad infinitum until it falls prey to the vertigo of the void, shifts perception of the work towards a concept of participation and relationship with the physical space of architecture: making space itself an aesthetic place and the tendency to deal with its characteristics, even structurally, are key aspects of modern and contemporary culture which questions the permeability of the boundary between art of space and space of art. In short, this exhibition is an open invitation to the artists and by the artists to the public to use all their five senses to take over space: they are asked to fill it, measure it, enhance it, violate it, transfigure it and represent it as a way to create a relationship that will irreversibly transform it from a neutral space to a chosen space, for example this venue which for the first time hosts the collection of the historic “Salerniana,” a collection of works by young artists, most of whom are already famous while others are still emerging. Their works are representative of their research and reveal the wide range of ways in which they interpret space.

Patrizia Ferri è storica, critica d’arte, curatrice indipendente e giornalista. Collabora con Musei nazionali e internazionali, Fondazioni e Gallerie private. Relatrice a Convegni sulle problematiche e tendenze dell’arte e dell’estetica contemporanea, invitata nelle Giurie di vari Premi per l’arte delle ultime generazioni di cui si occupa dall’87; autrice, consulente, direttore artistico ed editoriale per alcune Case Editrici tra cui Gangemi Editore, De Agostini e Maretti Editore; ha condotto e collaborato a programmi televisivi e radiofonici per la RAI e Reti private. Dirige le collane editoriali: Estetica Urbana (Gangemi Editore), Navigatori Solitari (Aracne Editrice), Dangerous Liaisons (Carte Segrete). Rappresentante nazionale del MIUR/AFAM nella Commissione Consultiva dell’Assessorato All’Urbanistica del Comune di Roma per gli interventi artistici di riqualificazione urbana relativamente alla Legge del 2%. Ordinaria di Storia dell’Arte Contemporanea presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna. Docente del Collegio di Dottorato di Ricerca in Tecnica Urbanistica presso il D.A.U. (Dipartimento Architettura e Urbanistica) – Facoltà di Ingegneria – Sapienza Università di Roma, presso cui è Condirettore del CE.D.R.A.P. (Centro di Documentazione e Ricerca sull’Arte Pubblica). Docente di “Progettazione artistica nello spazio pubblico” presso il D.A.U., Sapienza, Roma.

Patrizia Ferri is an art critic, historian, independent curator and journalist. She works with national and international Museums, Foundations and private Galleries. Speaker at conferences on the problems and trends in the art world and contemporary aesthetics and jury member of various Art Awards for young people, a field she has worked in since 1987. Author, consultant, artistic and editorial director for several Publishing Houses, including Gangemi Editore, De Agostini and Maretti Editore. Director of editorial collections: Estetica Urbana (Gangemi Editore), Navigatori Solitari (Aracne Editrice), Dangerous Liaisons (Carte Segrete). She has collaborated and presented programmes on television and the radio for RAI and private networks. National representative of MIUR/AFAM in the Advisory Committee of the Department of Town-Planning of the Municipality of Rome for artistic works in the framework of urban requalification in accordance with the 2% Law. Professor of History of Contemporary Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. Board Member for the Research Doctorate in Town-Planning Techniques at the D.A.U. (Department of Architecture & Town-Planning) – Faculty of Engineering – Sapienza University of Rome, where she is also Joint Director of the CE.D.R.A.P. (Centre of Documentation and Research on Public Art). Teacher of “Artistic design of public space” at the D.A.U., Sapienza, Rome.
