In Italia ogni viaggio corrisponde a un movimento interiore, un attraversamento dell’anima prima ancora che del territorio.
Ogni luogo, dal borgo nascosto alla città d’arte, custodisce un modo diverso di abitare e di pensare la bellezza. Italians do it beautifully nasce da questo sguardo errante, da un percorso che attraversa il Paese senza una direzione prestabilita, inseguendo storie, architetture, interni, giardini, visioni di vita. È un viaggio nomade, dove la creatività italiana si manifesta non come stile ma come attitudine, la capacità di armonizzare misura e desiderio, radici e visione.
Nella nostra amata penisola l’abitare è sempre un racconto di continuità. Anche il progetto più innovativo nasce dal confronto con ciò che esiste, con una materia costruita nei secoli e un paesaggio che non ammette neutralità.
Qui l’architettura si misura con vincoli, regole, tempi lunghi; ma è proprio dentro questa complessità che prende forma un modo unico di intendere lo spazio. Restaurare, trasformare, rielaborare significa interpretare, leggere, ascoltare. Ogni muro, ogni corte, ogni pavimento antico chiede di essere compreso prima ancora che modificato. Il progetto diventa così gesto di cura e conoscenza, un atto che tiene insieme passato e presente senza nostalgia, perché la modernità, per noi, non è mai cancellazione ma dialogo.
Le dimore raccolte in questo volume — residenze e hotels — rivelano la stessa tensione, ovvero quel creare armonia senza rinunciare al carattere. Sono spazi che parlano di equilibrio e di emozione, dove la luce costruisce la forma e la materia restituisce verità. Ogni intervento racconta un’Italia diversa, quella che si rinnova con discrezione, che riconosce nella qualità dei dettagli e nell’intelligenza dei gesti il proprio linguaggio più autentico.

In Italy every journey corresponds to an inner experience, a traversing of the soul before that of the territory. Every site, from a hidden hamlet to a city of art, preserves a different way of dwelling and of imagining beauty. Italians do it beautifully was inspired by this wandering gaze, by an itinerary that crisscrosses the country without a preset destination, chasing stories, architectures, interiors, gardens, and visions of life. It is a nomadic journey, one where Italian creativity is visible, not as a style but as an inclination, the ability to harmonize measure and desire, roots and vision.
In our beloved peninsula, dwelling is always a story of continuity. Even the most innovative project starts by having to deal with what exists, with what has been built over the centuries, and with a landscape that banishes neutrality. In Italy architecture has to consider restrictions, regulations, and the long term; but it is this complexity that leads to our unique way of understanding space.
Restoration, transformation and redevelopment involve interpretation, comprehension and listening. Every wall, every courtyard, every old floor asks to be understood before being modified. This is how a project becomes a gesture of care and knowledge, an act that combines past and present but without ceding to nostalgia, because for us Italians modernity is never erasure but dialogue.
The buildings illustrated in this book – houses and hotels – reveal the same tension, in other words the creation of harmony without foregoing character. These spaces speak of balance and emotion, where light generates form and matter restores truth. Every project narrates a different Italy, an Italy that is discreetly renewed, that acknowledges its most authentic language as being hidden in the quality of the details and in intelligent gestures.
We – Gianni and Roberto – are the ones taking you along this path; observers and interpreters of a country that continues to surprise us with the ability to reinvent itself. Our words and visions map out an emotional geography of dwelling. From North to South, from cities to rural landscapes, we will tell you the tale of the Bel Paese, of architects, craftsmen, artists and clients who share the same idea of harmony, considered as a human and civil order.
There is no one way of being Italian; likewise, there is no one concept of beauty. There is, however, a thin red line uniting everything: the ability to transform an everyday routine into an aesthetic experience; to consider making and creating as something important; to generate continuity between hand and mind. This book was inspired by this shared, informed and curious gaze: a mosaic of places and people who have bestowed on the verb dwelling a much deeper meaning… Belonging.
