A semi serious history of laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is the new technique that has revolutionized surgery during the last 15 years. The so called “key hole” surgery has had a profound impact not only on surgery but it has imposed a new way of conceiving therapy: the minimal invasive therapy.
Why semiserious history? In 80 sketches the history of laparoscopy is traced from the “inside”.
This is what Philippe Mouret wrote to me: «J’ai beaucoup apprécié le terme de « semi- serious» que tu emploies pour l’ouvrage que tu prépares. Je suis complètement en accord avec cette façon d’aborder les choses, car le «full serious» est tellement ennuyeux et pédant, et le «complete joke» totalement futile ou du moins fugace.»
In one chapter the thoughts and considerations of some of the top laparoscopic surgeons in the world are reported, giving a panorama of “what laparoscopy was and what it will be”.
Finally a chapter is dedicated to the history and the iconography of Saint Sebastian. Saint Sebastian has been declared patron of the laparoscopic surgeons with the High Consensus of His Holiness Pope John Paul II, granting the votes of the Italian Society for Endoscopic Surgery (SICE).
