La Collezione Farnesina, nata nel 2000 non soltanto per arricchire gli spazi del Palazzo della Farnesina, ma anche quale importante strumento della politica di promozione culturale del Ministero degli Affari Esteri, rappresenta un caso significativo e peculiare di raccolta d’arte contemporanea di un’Istituzione pubblica. Essa trae origine e si arricchisce continuamente grazie a un connubio speciale che si è instaurato tra il Ministero e gli artisti, i loro eredi, le istituzioni d’arte, le gallerie e le fondazioni che, nel prestare le opere in comodato gratuito, contribuiscono a valorizzare molte delle tendenze di maggior rilievo dell’arte contemporanea italiana.

The Farnesina Collection was established in 2000 not only to embellish Palazzo della Farnesina, but also to play an important role in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s cultural promotion policy: it represents a unique and major collection of contemporary art in a public institution. In fact the collection has gone from strength to strength thanks to the special bond that has gradually developed between the Ministry and the artists and their heirs as well as the art institutions, galleries and foundations that have lent their works free of charge and thereby help to enhance many of the most important trends in contemporary Italian art.
