Il drago e la Farfalla – The dragon and the butterfly

La storia del Vietnam è una lunga marcia verso la pace, costellata di tragedie che non hanno però mai impedito a questo popolo fiero di coltivare tutte le virtù di un’anima straordinariamente ricca: orgoglio nazionale, solidarietà e tradizioni culturali. Solo per un crudele destino disegnato dalla storia questo Paese deve gran parte della sua fama alla guerra. Il Vietnam avrebbe meritato invece di essere conosciuto per ben altro: per le bellezze naturali e le creazioni artistiche che l’Unesco ha dichiarato Patrimonio dell’Umanità, per la raffinata sensibilità della sua gente, per la gioia che accompagna il vivere quotidiano, per l’operosità dei lavoratori, la gentilezza delle donne, il sorriso dei bambini.
Il Vietnam di oggi è un Paese che corre verso il domani, che lotta con un presente denso di incognite, che guarda al futuro con speranza e impegno, attento alle novità e ai cambiamenti. Forse non è un modello per il mondo occidentale, ma sicuramente un esempio. Ed è un luogo che tutti vorrebbero visitare.
Certo, non sono molte le occasioni per conoscere il Vietnam. O lo si visita, o è difficile avere contatti con la realtà di questo Paese, la sua crescita artistica, i nuovi sviluppi della cultura, gli stili di vita della popolazione giovanile, che rappresenta il 70 per cento del popolo vietnamita. Eppure proprio ai modelli del sudest asiatico si ispirano molte delle attuali tendenze internazionali in fatto di costume, dall’arredamento alla moda, dalle tecniche e pratiche del benessere all’alimentazione. Non solo: tracce di influenze profonde si possono notare, in Occidente, anche nelle manifestazioni della cultura e perfino nella religione.
Il Vietnam fa parte di un mondo più vasto, quello asiatico, che è lontano dalla nostra storia e dalla nostra tradizione ma al quale ci siamo rivolti prima con distacco, poi con attenzione, fino ad osservarlo con sempre maggiore simpatia e partecipazione. Oggi ne subiamo il fascino malizioso e ci piace fare nostre alcune delle sue usanze, di cui ammiriamo l’elegante semplicità e lo spessore culturale.
Per questo abbiamo deciso come Amministrazione Provinciale di organizzare un Festival che potrà essere occasione di incontro e di conoscenza di tutte quelle realtà che hanno reso interessante il Vietnam oltre la tragedia della guerra; un Festival in grado di offrire un’immagine vera e attuale di questo Paese, non più fondata su una immane tragedia ma su quello che il Vietnam è realmente oggi.
L’arte è, come sempre, specchio di un popolo. Lo è nelle forme che sceglie e nei soggetti che decide di rappresentare; mostra aspetti sconosciuti, immaginati, sognati. Propone, attraverso il filtro sapiente degli autori, una prospettiva che guarda al domani, capace di incoraggiare il miglioramento. Gli artisti contemporanei vietnamiti sono parte fondamentale del processo di crescita del Paese. Le opere esposte al Vittoriano e che qui vengono presentate, sono una importante e rara documentazione di quanto l’arte vietnamita sia diventata interessante. Nella mostra abbiamo avuto il privilegio di poter ospitare alcuni fra i maggiori artisti del Paese, insieme a importanti opere provenienti dal Museo delle Belle Arti di Hanoi. Lo consideriamo un onore, una ragione in più per sentirci vicini a questo popolo e alla sua storia straordinaria verso la pace.

the history of Vietnam is a long march towards peace, spotted with tragedies that have never prohibited this proud people from cultivating all the virtues of an extraordinarily rich soul: national pride, solidarity and cultural tradition. Only due to a cruel destiny drawn by history does this country owe a great part of its fame to war. Vietnam should have merited to be known by other things: its natural beauty and artistic creations that UNESCO has declared Human Heritage, the refined sensibility of its people, the joy that accompanies daily life, the hard-working people, the kindness of the women, and the smiles of children.
The Vietnam of today is a country running towards tomorrow, fighting with a today filled with unknowns, looking towards the future with hope and obligation, all while being careful of novelty and change. Maybe it is not a model for the western world, but definitely an example. And it is a place that all want to visit.
Certainly there are not many occasions to be acquainted with Vietnam. Either you visit it, or it is difficult to have contacts with the authenticity of this country, its artistic growth, the new developments of its culture, and the lifestyles of its youthful population who represent 70 per cent of the Vietnamese people. Yet it is towards the Southeast Asian model that current international tendencies are inspired in matters of dress, a la mode decorating, technique and practice of well-being, and foods. Not only: traces of profound influence in cultural expression and even in religion may also be noted in the West.
Vietnam is part of a larger world, that of Asia, which is far away from our history and traditions, but to which at first we turned with detachment, then with attention, finally observing it with greater sympathy and participation. Today we suffer its mischievous charm, and we enjoy calling some of its customs our own, in which we admire the elegant simplicity and cultural depth.
For this reason as Provincial Administration we have decided to organize a Festival that will offer an occasion to meet and understand all those realities that have made Vietnam interesting beyond the tragedy of war; a Festival able to offer a true and actual image of this country no longer founded on tragedy but on what Vietnam really is today.
Art is, as always, a mirror of the people. It is in the forms it chooses and in the subjects it decides to represent; it depicts unknown aspects, both imagined and dreamt. It proposes, through the knowledgeable filter of the author, a perspective that looks towards tomorrow, able to encourage improvement. The Vietnamese contemporary artists are a fundamental part of the country’s growth process. The works of art displayed at the Vittoriano and presented herein are a rare and important record of how Vietnamese art has become fascinating. In the exhibition we have the pleasure to host art chosen among the best artists in the country, together with important works from the Museum of Fine Arts in Hanoi. We consider it an honor, a further reason to feel close to this people and their extraordinary road towards peace.
