Il rotolo giapponese Bamodoizu – The Japanese Bamodoizu roll

Il restauro del rotolo giapponese dipinto su carta (emakimono) raffigurante trentatré cavalli intitolato Bamodoizu ha costituito un avvincente momento di incontro fra sapere tradizionale giapponese e metodo di restauro italiano. Attraverso l’intervento completo eseguito in ogni sua fase con il controllo delle indagini scientifiche è stato possibile verificare la validità della prassi operativa e l’efficacia dei materiali tradizionali utilizzati in Giappone, che sono stati impiegati sempre tenendo presenti i requisiti richiesti dal metodo critico adottato all’ISCR. Allo studio scientifico dei materiali costitutivi e della tecnica esecutiva si sono affiancati lo studio filologico e la traduzione dei testi, che hanno contribuito a confermare l’attribuzione del dipinto a Kano Sansetsu (1590-1651).

The restoration of the Japanese scroll painted on paper (emakimono) depicting thirty-three horses entitled Bamodoizu constituted a compelling moment of encounter between traditional Japanese knowledge and Italian restoration method. Through the complete intervention carried out in each of its phases with the control of the scientific investigations it was possible to verify the validity of the operating practice and the effectiveness of the traditional materials used in Japan, which were always used keeping in mind the requirements required by the critical method adopted all’ISCR. The scientific study of the constituent materials and the executive technique was joined by philological study and translation of the texts, which helped confirm the attribution of the painting to Kano Sansetsu (1590-1651).
