Giovanna Picciau è nata a Roma
dove vive e lavora.
Ha anche vissuto a Londra, a Parigi
dove ha allestito diverse mostre personali e collettive
e a Torino, città nella quale
ha cominciato la sua carriera artistica nel 1970.

Giovanna Picciau is, on her part, an unstoppable collectionist of all and everything. For this reason elements of pop culture return without cynicism or didactic intent. She treats the inviting surfaces of her knick-knacks in minute detail. That between Pop Art and collectionism has often been a happy combination, enough to think that Andy Warhol collected his own phone calls, recording them every morning. In psychoanalysis collecting may been seen as an impulsive gesture prompted by a world that we fear is destined to disappear. Surrealist lasciviousness is stripped of sexual connotation to give rise to an intimate pleasure tied to possession of the object, and to substitute for the flesh inviting pastries and iced cakes on canvas. The collectionism of Giovanna Picciau opposes vacuous horror and parodies the excesses of D’Annunzio-ism.
